Josephine Tey
Josephine Tey, Elizabeth Mackintosh (1896-1952), is a remarkable writer. I have come to her late but having found her, I am reading right the way through her work and enjoying every book. A playwright and author, Tey/Mackintosh was a reclusive, brilliant Scot who died quite young denying us more of the powerful, engaging, smart writing for which she is known. There are two excellent reviews of her work ... one on a blog here and another from the Washington Post. This has been a truly enjoyable series to read and I highly recommended them.

Don't you think the attitude of 'real' historians to Tey's The Daughter of Time (and its thesis on the princes in the tower) is a bit like the attitude of 'real' literary critics to blogging critics? Reading The Daughter of Time made me want to join the Richard III Society!

Becca, which book would you recommend someone new to Josephine Tey to start with? I should very much like to read her.

I have to thank you again. I read Josephone Tey at least 30 years ago on my mother's recommendation with, I recall, great enjoyment. I don't think I read all of them so how nice to be reminded of her. Don't expect I will be able to lay hands on copies after all these years so Amazon it is.
