Like every other tourist in Israel, we swam in the Dead Sea. Surrounded by desert mountains, the sea is magically beautiful - like a mirage. The bottom is very rocky, so wear your hotel slippers and make sure all jewelry is real gold or silver, or it will corrode even if you are in the water for less than thirty minutes. I learned that the hard way.

A convention of pelicans on the Salton Sea and a view of the sea and mountains from the shores of the nearby State Park. Although the resort is isolated, its advantage is that is the only place where you get the winter-time benefits of desert living and also be close to the excellent birding area that is the Salton Sea.
